At The Blinds Collective Design Studio, we believe safety is equally as important as style when it comes to your window treatments. Homes with children and pets must take proper safety precautions to prevent serious window cord accidents. To help make your home safer, our window coverings and treatments have many great features to help ensure that your home is comfortable and safe.
● We offer cordless and motorized lift options that provide the ultimate safety‒eliminating the cords that could potentially strangle children or pets.● Tension pulleys and tie-down devices can be added to our window treatments to keep continuous-loop pull cords taut and ensure safety.● We can provide cord stops for horizontal blinds that prevent internal cords from slipping through the louvres.
The importance of safety for window coverings is not something that should be taken lightly. The Government of Canada has introduced new legislation to ensure that all window treatments and coverings sold in Canada are the safest solution for their intended use. It also requires manufacturers of these products to provide a means for consumers to obtain information on the proper use and maintenance of those products. For more information on these regulations please see below.
The Blinds Collective Design Studio and Health Canada urge parents and caregivers to check all window treatments for potential cord hazards and to follow these guidelines to ensure your home is safe:
● Cordless window coverings should be installed in bedrooms and sleeping areas used by children.● Ensure all cribs, beds, furniture, and toys are moved away from any windows and cords, ideally to another wall.● Ensure tasseled pull cords are short and continuous-loop cords are permanently anchored to the floor or wall. Keep all cords out of reach of children by installing and using cord cleats.● Cord stops must be correctly installed and adjusted to limit the movement of all inner lift cords.● Ensure cords are locked into position whenever horizontal blinds or shades are lowered, including when they rest on a window sill● Replace any blinds, shades, or drapes manufactured before 2001 with products that meet updated safety regulations.● If you can't replace your window treatments, we suggest repairing any window blinds, corded shades, and draperies made before 2001 with retrofit cord kits.
Our cordless control options are certified as Best for Kids™ by an independent lab.
